Relax in the sumptuous surroundings of a Grade I listed Palladian mansion nestled in the Quantock Hills. Combining character, history and beauty, this unique country house has undergone extensive renovations and now returned to its former glory. Exclusive use guaranteed, The Somerset Residence is perfect for an opulent house party, corporate getaway or magnificent wedding.

Inside

  • Style: Opulent and luxurious. Inside you’ll see beautiful rooms, sweeping grand staircase and elegant details that befit a period stately mansion.
  • Bedrooms: Exclusive hire is based on rental of a minimum of 12 bedrooms (sleeping 24); although an additional 8 bedrooms (sleeping 16) are available in the East wing of the main house for a larger party. Each bedroom is individually furnished in period style, boasting pocket sprung mattresses bedecked with antique cotton and silk throws. For a larger group, additional accommodation can be provided in cottages within close proximity of the house (at an additional cost)
  • For relaxation: Relax in the luxury rooftop hot tub overlooking the park and surrounding countryside. In-house spa treatments can be arranged as requested.
  • For recreation: Within the grounds are a number of interesting follies. Take tea by the ornamental lake perhaps. Additional recreational facilities and excursions can be booked locally or arranged through the house.

Outside

The large country house is approached by a long drive through a former ornamental park. The history of the parkland and its ornamental buildings, which are survivals of a notable 18th Century romantic landscape, are listed Grade II* on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

Food and Wine

Available on a self-catering bases although catering staff can be arranged.
  • DIY: Formerly known as the Great Hall, the unique country kitchen has facilities of the highest quality including a six Aga oven, of which two ovens are gas.
  • In-house cuisine: Highly recommended caterers can be organised for dinners, lunches, buffets and breakfasts. The dining hall can seat up to 90 guests.
  • Eating Out: Enjoy the Podshavers Barn Restaurant in Taunton, The Spice Gallery in North Petherton or Clavershay Barn, North Petherton.
  • Corkage: £15 per bottle for wine and champagne. It is possible for the owners to organise a staffed bar.
Getting there
  • On the map: Situated in the small parish of Goathurst, some three miles southwest of Bridgwater on the northern edge of the Quantocks.
  • By car: Just under 3 hours from the centre of London.
  • By Train: Nearest station is Taunton. Direct train journey from London Paddington is 2 hours and 15 minutes.
  • Heli-pad: Yes (front lawn)

Out and About

  • You can go horse riding close by and the nearest golf course is only a mile away.
  • There are plenty of opportunities for fishing, and many activities such as archery and clay pigeon shooting can be organised at the house.
  • Exmoor National Park is a short drive away and just over the hill are the world famous Hestercombe Gardens.
